THE THESIS

My mathematical PhD thesis that is used as a basis for this work is published as a book. By adding photographs and hand-written texts to the books, I created unique pieces out of them.

The goal of the project is to explore the link between different worlds coming from the same source (mathematics, photography and personality). The thesis deals with automated focusing of the electron microscope. While working on the project I have realised that the mathematical problem of searching for sharp images is directly related to unsharpness in a lot of my photography work. At the end, it all goes back to my childhood and for instance the fact that at the age of 14 years I started wearing glasses.

In general, during the creation process, it appeared that the two worlds of mathematics and photography do have a lot in common and can be easily connected via the objectives of personality.

Artworks are often regarded as personal autobiographical pieces. Scientific research is rarely related to the personal life of the scientist. Could the scientific research be as autobiographical?
