RAISING DOUBTS

Artists: Jasmin Moeller, Masha Ru
Technical realisation of the platform: Chris Meighan
Graphic design of the on-line platform: Olga Ganzha

Raising Doubts is an initiative by Jasmin Moeller and Masha Ru in collaboration with Mediamatic. The project is executed as an installation in the public space and supported by an online platform. In both parts, questions play a central role. The questions are used not only to start a conversation but also to shape the artwork and help to find out what kind of artist you are or could have been.

The questions in Raising Doubts are based on earlier research of Jasmin Moeller (The Reality of Theory) and are inspired by the essay The Myth of Artisthood by art historian Camiel van Winkel. In his work van Winkel distinguishes three types of artists: Romantic, Modernistic and Beaux-Art.

The installation
Are you fundamentally lonely? Do you break taboos? Raising Doubts asks you thirty questions during a walking tour through Dijkspark. Large flower pots have been set up in a grid, each showing one out of thirty questions. Visitors are supplied with specially designed punch cards. They contain seeds of carefully selected plants — each plant belonging to one question. The visitor answers by pushing out the seeds from the card into the flower pots. The individual answers are sown into the ground. An organic infographic of plants is created which reflects the answers of all visitors.

The online platform RAISINGDOUBTS.NL

The goal of this platform is to stimulate fundamental thinking about research in art. It is based on research methods, codes and relations between theory and practice. By answering thirty questions you find out what kind of artist you are or could have been. Your answers will be placed into a general context.
